The Tridhara, linked to the descent of Ganga (Ganga Avataran). King Sagara’s 60,000 sons were burned to ashes by Sage Kapila’s curse, and only the sacred river Ganga could grant them salvation. After generations of penance, King Bhagiratha pleased Brahma, who allowed Ganga to descend from the heavens. To control her immense force, Shiva caught her in his matted locks and released her in three streams—Swarga Ganga (celestial), Bhu Ganga (earthly), and Patal Ganga (netherworld)—forming the Tridhara. This sacred river purified Sagara’s sons and became the holiest river, revered for its divine and purifying nature.
