Chameli Ramachandran
Chameli Ramachandran (b. 1940) is an acclaimed Indian artist known for her delicate and poetic watercolor paintings. Born in Santiniketan, she studied at Kala Bhavana, the art faculty of Visva-Bharati University, where she was influenced by the philosophies of Rabindranath Tagore and the natural surroundings of the ashram. Her works often depict flowers, plants, and landscapes, rendered with a subtlety and sensitivity that reflect her deep connection to nature. Ramachandran’s use of light and color, combined with her meticulous attention to detail, creates an ethereal quality in her paintings. She is also known for her exploration of Chinese painting techniques, which she integrated into her own style. Her art captures the beauty and tranquility of the natural world, making her a significant figure in contemporary Indian art.
