Ravana was the powerful king of Lanka, primarily known as the antagonist of the Ramayana. He was a great scholar, devotee of Shiva, master of the Vedas, and a skilled musician, but his arrogance led to his downfall. Best known for his ten heads, symbolizing his vast knowledge and prowess, he kidnapped Sita, Lord Rama’s wife, which ultimately led to the great war where he was defeated by Rama. Despite being a formidable warrior, Ravana is also remembered for his deep devotion, wisdom, and as the composer of Shiva Tandava Stotra in praise of Lord Shiva.
