This painting depicts the scene from the epic Mahabharata, “Ganga scene” refers to the moment when Arjuna, during the Kurukshetra war, uses his divine arrow to bring forth a stream of water from the earth to quench the thirst of his critically wounded grandfather, Bhishma, who was lying on a bed of arrows, effectively bringing the essence of the river Ganga (his mother) to him in his time of need
