Tapan Dash

Tapan Kumar Dash, born in 1972 in Odisha, is a distinguished artist who completed his BFA from B.K. College of Art & Crafts, Bhubaneswar, in 1995. Dash’s works are a captivating blend of ancient symbolism and modern interpretation, exploring dimensions beyond the conventional. Through his dynamic lines and drawing, he creates a dialogue between figural and abstract elements, invoking a pastoral dialectic that transcends traditional artistic techniques.

Dash’s bold brushwork transcends the confines of the pictorial plane, evoking a sensory-rich wilderness reminiscent of Henri Rousseau’s naive style. His narrative unfolds like intricately woven tapestries, teeming with diverse imagery and organic elements. Particularly noteworthy is his exploration of the Hamsa, where he delves into rich figural and symbolic depths, evoking magical, lyrical, and mythological connotations that straddle the mortal and divine realms. The Hamsa’s enigmatic gaze traverses dimensions, symbolising the interconnectedness of the individual soul and the mythical omnipotence of knowledge.

In Dash’s aesthetic realm, mosaic brick roads serve as conduits for a cartographic journey, juxtaposing figural and abstract elements in allegorical and surrealist compositions. These works blur the boundaries between dreaming and waking states, inviting viewers to embark on a journey through the artist’s panorama of creativity. Dash continually redefines his oeuvre, showcasing the strength of his perspective and imagination, and inviting viewers to engage with the profound depths of his artistic vision.
