Shri Vithoba, a form of Lord Vishnu, is worshipped mainly in Maharashtra and Karnataka, with his chief temple in Pandharpur. Depicted as a dark-complexioned boy standing with arms akimbo, he symbolizes compassion and love for devotees. Two major sects—Varkari and Haridasa—follow non-ritualistic Bhakti traditions. Major festivals include Shayani and Prabodhini Ekadashi, when millions of Varkaris undertake pilgrimages, sing abhangas, and celebrate with grand processions.
