KALI
48 x 36 inches
Acrylic and ink on canvas
2019

Goddess Kali, also known as Adi Para-shakti, embodies the ultimate cosmic energy behind creation, preservation, and destruction. As Lord Shiva’s dynamic force, she transcends all qualities, symbolized by her dark complexion. Kali’s four arms carry symbols of fearlessness, blessings, and the severing of ego and ignorance. Her tongue and teeth represent mastery over rajas and sattva, while her garland of fifty severed heads signifies the Sanskrit alphabet and the sound AUM. She appears in many forms—Dakshina Kali (protective mother), Mahakali (time and death), Bhadra Kali (graceful), Raksha Kali (protector from calamities), and Vama or Shamshana Kali (fierce liberator). Particularly revered by Tantriks, her worship involves intense energy and is generally avoided in households due to its powerful effects.
