“Mahishasura, a powerful demon blessed by Lord Brahma, could not be killed by a man or god. To defeat him, the trinity—Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva—combined their powers to create Goddess Durga, endowed with ten arms and divine weapons. Riding a lion, Durga waged a fierce nine-day battle, ultimately slaying Mahishasura with her trident, earning the title Mahishasura Mardini. This victory is celebrated during Sharad Navratri, culminating in Vijayadashami. Across India, it symbolizes the triumph of good over evil—Durga’s victory in the East, Rama’s in the North, Garba in the West, and festive rituals like kolu and Ayudha Puja in the South.
