GARUDA
60 x 48 inches
Acrylic on canvas
2020

Garuda, also known as Tarkshya and Vainateya, is the king of birds and vahana of Vishnu. Younger brother of Aruna, he appears in the Rig Veda as a celestial deva and in Yajur Veda as courage personified. In the Mahabharata, Garutman (Garuda) has shape-shifting powers and lightning speed. Inseparable from Vishnu, he is depicted anthropomorphically, with wings and folded hands in Anjali Mudra, symbolizing devotion.
